In a heartfelt post, Vinicius wrote: "Today was a very, very special day for me… Listening and learning the story of a MAN that has been fighting so much against racism was unforgettable for me. Thank you so much, Colin. Your story is truly inspiring and I recommend everyone to watch your Netflix documentary. Thank you Nike for connecting us. This day and my conversation with Colin will have a major impact on my life going forward to make this a better and more equal world."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The duo were brought together by sports brand Nike. Their overlapping life stories are due to them both being victims of racism in their respective sports. The Real Madrid star has been a victim of abuse numerous times in La Liga over the past year, and has since, started to use his social media platform as a voice for victims of abuse. Kaepernick, meanwhile, has not held a job in the NFL since 2016 – despite multiple tryouts and less-decorated players earning roster spots despite a poor resume in comparison.
