Best Early Game Jobs in Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles

Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles is a renowned tactical RPG that is filled with choices. This massive game pits you against challenging enemies, so you will need to be ready by ensuring every one of your units has the best possible job and stats.

In the early game, you don’t have a whole lot of choices for which jobs your characters will be able to have in Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles, but there are some great ones you can have. Here is a breakdown of the best jobs to get as early as possible for your teammates.

Best Possible Early Game Job in Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles

The best possible job for all your units in the FFT is Squire. It doesn’t matter if the unit will eventually be a magic user or have a physical job; the Squire is the absolute best job in Final Fantasy Tactic‘s early game. The reason? Squires have some amazing potential skills that everyone will want to learn for the adventure going forward, including job point (JP) boosting and Focus.

  • Must Haves:
    • JP Boost: 250 JP
    • Focus: 300 JP (A self-buff that has 100% hit chance, so you always get XP and JP from using it)
  • Good to Get:
    • Movement +1: 200 JP
    • Salve: 150 JP
    • Counter Tackle: 180 JP

In order to get all those JPs to buy all of those helpful skills in this fan-favorite tactical RPG, you will need to use the secret weapon of raising your jobs levels: JP Sharing. If all five of your units are Squires, they will all share some job points to help you quickly buy the skills you need. When a unit gains JP, the other allied units in battle will gain one-quarter of the pre-JP-Boost JP earned by the original unit. JP sharing will ramp up your ability to unlock all the passives and skills you need quickly.

Important Notes About JP Sharing and Earning JP

  • If the unit gaining the bonus JP in the above scenario (pictured above) has JP Boost or not, it doesn’t matter; the JP sharing equation is unchanged by the JP Boost skill.
  • Job Points follow this equation when your units earn them: JP = [(8 + (JobLevel * 2)) + (UnitLevel / 4)] * [M]
    • M is equal to 1 unless the unit has the skill JP Boost, when it changes to 3/2. This is a huge boost, even if it makes the Tactics job system even more complex to calculate.
  • You do not earn JP for spells or attacks that do not hit. If you try to heal someone at full, this will not count to give your unit JP, and attacks need to actually connect to their target.
  • Anytime your unit has nothing to do, have them use Focus on themselves, since it automatically hits and will give you guaranteed both XP and JP every time.

Best Jobs After You're Done Being a Squire (Best Team Distribution)

Now that you have all the passives and skills you need and want from Squire for all your units in the Final Fantasy Tactics remake, it’s now time to start working toward the unit jobs you actually want. The best team distribution is:

  • One Monk
    • They have high Bravery
    • Knight > Monk
  • One Archer
    • Need ranged attacker to take out mages
    • Squire > Archer
  • Two Summoners
    • Powerful, though they use a lot of mana, but you can counteract that.
    • Pick the two squires with the highest Faith and make them White Mages. You may need to level up their Chemist job first.
      • Get Cure
      • Get Raise
      • Get Protect
      • Get Shell
    • When you hit level 3 White Mage, make one a Mystic and the other a Black Mage.
      • Get Manafont for your Mystic
      • Get your Black Mage to level 3.
    • Switch your Black Mage to a Mystic, and switch your Mystic to a Black Mage
      • Get Manafont for your Mystic
      • Get your Black Mage to level 3.
    • Switch both to Time Mage and get them to level 3.
    • Make both Summoners.
  • One permanent team member working toward Ninja (Ramza recommended)
    • Gives you Dual Wield, which is one of the most powerful skills in the game.
    • Requires
      • Level 4 Archer
      • Level 5 Thief
      • Level 3 Knight
        • Level 4 Monk
          • Level 2 Geomancer
